THE NUDE Old Vine Shiraz 2015 - McLaren Vale

nude
Region : McLaren Vale
The 2014 vintage was one of the most condensed seen in McLaren Vale with crushing completed by the end of March. The vintage was light in crop, but of excellent quality with Shiraz having excellent colour and flavour. Harvest weather conditions, during February and March, saw cool nights but warm days ideal for grape development. In response to this, vineyards typically developed two weeks earlier than normal, with Shiraz beginning at the end of February. By the start of March a large percentage of the district had already been harvested.

There’s good balance in this wine. The oak is prominent, nougat and vanilla, a touch toasty, but the thick belt of dark, peppery, ripe, potent black fruit is up to the task. Slippery flow of tannins gives a casing for slurpy, full-throttle fruit flavour and a long, slow chew of chalky pucker. It’s a wine that will continue to open showing its mettle and thrust as it grows in the glass. If it’s full bore you’re after, this is pretty impressive.

This wine can enjoyed on release, however, careful cellaring for 5 to 20 years will be rewarding.

2014 was a dry growing season, a cool spring resulted in lower than average yields. February was warm, enhancing faster than normal rates of ripening. Late rains slowed this ripening and subsequently perfect mild conditions followed allowing greater concentration of flavour to develop during the weeks leading into vintage.
